We're a women-owned company based in Montana, on a mission to transform health and wellness, especially in the realm of diabetes education and management. Our team at SugarBEAT Enterprise brings together a range of expertise in diabetes education, pharmacy, healthcare, and entrepreneurship. With a deep understanding of the challenges faced by those with diabetes, our goal is to make a real difference in their lives.

Leanna

Leanna Schwend

Founder and Owner

PharmD, DCES, CEO of Yellowstone Pharmacy of Forsyth

Leanna Schwend is PharmD and independent pharmacy owner who is passionate about Health and Wellness beyond the prescription. Her expertise is in value-added clinical services and leadership with special interests in Diabetes Education, Pharmacogenomics, Nutrigenomics, the Endocannabinoid system, Mental Health, and so much more! Leanna graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy of degree from the University of Montana Skaggs School of Pharmacy in 2011. She then stepped into the role of Pharmacist in Charge and manager of her family pharmacy, Yellowstone Pharmacy of Forsyth, and became CEO/Owner in 2022. She has successfully implemented an accredited diabetes education program through the American Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists, immunizations, medication synchronization, medication therapy management, and pharmacogenomics testing and consulting. She is a Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, holds a certification in Pharmacogenomics, and is a Montana Pharmacy Association Board of Directors.
When Leanna turned 25, she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Through her own personal experiences and knowledge of living with diabetes, she is committed and devoted to educating individuals that they can do more than survive…they can THRIVE! In 2023, Leanna founded SugarBEAT Enterprise, in which she and her teammates aim to deliver a top-notch digital diabetes education solution that will empower individuals on their wellness journey.

Entrepreneur & COO of Karis Medical Services

She is a thriving entrepreneur and adept operations manager with a knack for creating efficient systems and processes. Through her entrepreneurial journey, she has successfully navigated the business landscape, harnessing her skills to drive growth and innovation. Sarah's expertise in operations management has allowed her to design and implement streamlined systems that optimize workflows and enhance productivity. With a keen eye for detail and a passion for creating impactful solutions, she has consistently achieved success by blending entrepreneurial spirit with effective operations management. Sarah is deeply passionate about the healthcare field and aspires to champion individual patients, ensuring they receive the high-quality specialized care they rightly deserve.

James Bennett

BsPharm, BCGP, CDCES, Transforming Chronic Care LLC

James (Jimmy) Bennett, is a pharmacist consultant working with the Montana DPH Diabetes and Cardiovascular Health Programs where he facilitates chronic disease management programs for pharmacists and medical clinics, design and
presents continuing education programs for health care professionals, and publish a monthly Diabetes and Cardiovascular newsletter. He is the Medication Therapy Management Therapy Lead for a large national pharmacy chain.
Jimmy attended Vanderbilt University and graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. He is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), a Board-Certified Geriatric Pharmacist (BCGP) and holds certificates of expertise in Motivational Interviewing
(University of Pittsburg), Medication Therapy Management (APhA),
Hypertension, Lipid and Anticoagulation Management (University of Mississippi), Accurate Blood Pressure Measurement (Virginia Department of Health), and Continuous Glucose Monitoring (Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists).


Publications: He has contributed articles for numerous publications including Endocrine Today, American Pharmacist, The American Dietetic Association, Advances in Pharmacy, The Diabetes Educator, Drug Topics, U.S. Pharmacist, and The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists.


Presentations: As a faculty member and consultant for the Johnson and Johnson Diabetes Institute from 2000 until 2021, he has made over 200 diabetes-related presentations across the United States and internationally. He has been an invited speaker for national organizations including The Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists, The American College of Apothecaries, and The National Community Pharmacists Association.

Marci Butcher

RDN, CDCES

Marci Butcher is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist whose entire career has been focused on serving and supporting diabetes care and education specialists and those living with diabetes. She has worked as a Diabetes Care and Education Specialist/Consultant for over 20 years, helping to develop diabetes programs throughout Montana. She was selected as the 2017 National Diabetes Educator of the Year and is an ADCES Fellow. She’s very proud of the exceptional Montana diabetes care and education specialists across the state who help people with diabetes live well with this challenging and complex condition.  Marci’s husband, Jason, has had type 1 diabetes for 30 years, and he inspires her every day.
